Caravelli Olympic Medal hunt starts now

Receiving funding from the USOC has been fantastic.We have to give credit to our board and our executives because our funding didnt need to kick in until 2013 but they had the vision to see that most of the core teams on the Series are fulltime already, and if we want to win a medal in 2016 we need to start the investment now in 2012, which they have now done.The results mean that we have 11 contracted players and have four more spots left for the remainder of the year and our goal to find the right individual, to blend an athlete rugby player with a person who will fit into our culture and have that quest and the mission that he wants to go to 2016 and win that gold. read

Jon Bolter HSBC World Sevens Series A few things, I think, I think

Wellington was incredible, it always is but this year something seemed a little different and though the Kiwis eventually won out and deservedly so the difference this year was that it just didnt seem so nailed on this season.Im sure after some serious competition on Day 2 Gordon Tietjens will be pleased to get out of their home tournament with the win and the lead in the series at (almost) the half way point. We of course still have more to play than has been played but leading the series at this point was surely an aim for the Kiwi coach. read

IRB World Series opens its doors to new core teams

The International Rugby Board has announced details of a new qualification pathway for the HSBC Sevens World Series as the sport continues to build towards its Olympic Games reinclusion in 2016.With participation interest and competitiveness at an alltime high as Rugby Sevens goes from strength to strength, the number of core teams that participate in each of the events on the World Series will increase from 12 to 15 for the 2012/13 Series.This years Cathay Pacific / HSBC Hong Kong Sevens on 2325 March, which is the only event on the calendar to feature 24 teams, will double as the qualification tournament. read
